Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) Program
The HCS Program is designed to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) while helping them live as independently and comfortably as possible within their communities.
HCS services may be provided in a variety of living arrangements, including the individual’s family home, their own home, a foster or companion care setting, or a home shared with up to three other individuals who also receive HCS services.
The goal of the HCS Program is to provide each individual with the supports they need to live successfully in the community, develop greater independence, and participate in everyday activities and community life to the greatest extent possible.
Service coordination is provided through the local Mental Retardation Authority (MRA), which helps individuals and their families coordinate services and supports.
Individuals living in foster or companion care settings or in an HCS residence are responsible for their own room and board. These expenses may be paid using the individual’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or other personal financial resources.
